Impact on Safety

Point Molate is situated on a cul de sac, with one road in and out, connected only to I-580 West. The Chevron Refinery lies on the opposite side of the ridge. Fuel storage tanks are visible on entering the area and on top of the hill. The Richmond Fire Department has labeled Point Molate a “high severity fire zone.” During a recent grass fire at the refinery it took the Richmond Fire Department 20 minutes to arrive to help put out the fire. Between the refinery and the limited access, the idea of building over 2,000 residential units at Point Molate seems foolhardy.
